Core feature

Automatic receipt printing — order in, receipt out

Every incoming order prints automatically on your receipt printer — no click, no delay. GastroSystem supports Epson TM-T88VI, Epson TM-T20III, Star TSP143 and all generic ESC/POS printers. Connection via Wi-Fi, LAN, Bluetooth or USB. Up to 5 printers per location configurable.

Supported printers and connection types

GastroSystem supports three connection classes: (1) Epson TM series (TM-T88VI, TM-T88V, TM-T20III) via ESC/POS over Wi-Fi (IP+port), LAN (direct or via router) and USB. (2) Star Micronics TSP143 and TSP650 via StarPRNT or ESC/POS over Wi-Fi and LAN. (3) Generic ESC/POS printers via Bluetooth or USB. Tip: for production environments we recommend Wi-Fi or LAN over Bluetooth — more stable and no range issues.

Kitchen and counter receipts configured separately

Assign each order category its own target printer: items from the 'Pizza' category go to the kitchen Epson, drinks go to the bar, the payment receipt goes to the counter. When a guest orders pizza + water, the kitchen receipt automatically prints only the pizza, the payment receipt prints all items. No manual forwarding, no walking between till and kitchen.

Out-of-paper alert and printer errors

If a printer runs out of paper or loses connection, an alert appears immediately in the dashboard — with the name of the affected printer and error code. You can configure the system to print to a backup printer if the main printer fails until it comes back online. No silent failures, no missed orders.

KassenSichV-compliant audit trail on the receipt

When the integrated TSE POS is active, the payment receipt automatically prints all legally required fields: TSE signature, TSE serial number, transaction number, start and end timestamp. This is mandatory from 2026 under the KassenSichV receipt issuance obligation. No manual additions, no separate TSE software.

Customise receipt layout

Configure the layout: logo at the top, contact details, custom text (e.g. 'Thank you!'), tip lines, QR code for next order. Most common font sizes and character sets are supported. Line-break rules for long product names are pre-configured — no text gets cut off.

Common questions about receipt printers

Which printer is recommended?

For production hospitality we recommend the Epson TM-T88VI (Wi-Fi/LAN, 350 mm/sec) or the Star TSP143 (Wi-Fi/LAN, more compact). Both are tested and plug-and-play out of the box. If you already have an ESC/POS printer, try it first — most common models work without any configuration.

Can I use Bluetooth printers?

Yes, but with limitations: Bluetooth range is limited (approx. 10 m, less through walls), and the connection is more prone to interference than LAN/Wi-Fi. Bluetooth is fine for mobile use (food truck, bar counter). For a fixed kitchen printer we recommend Wi-Fi or LAN.

What happens when the printer runs out of paper?

You immediately receive an alert notification in the dashboard and optionally via push. If you have a backup printer configured, the system automatically continues printing there. All unprinted orders remain visible in the dashboard and can be manually reprinted.

How do I connect the printer to GastroSystem?

Printer setup: turn on the printer, read off the IP address (printed on the printer's test print) and enter it in GastroSystem settings under 'Printers'. For Bluetooth printers confirm the pairing code in the app. Typically 5 minutes to the first test receipt.
