A digital menu for restaurants needs to do more than display dishes: declare 14 EU allergens, label additives, map variants with their own pricing logic and control availability in real time. GastroSystem does all of this without any IT knowledge — and without reprinting every time.
14 EU allergens and additives
Enter all 14 notifiable allergens per dish as required by the EU Food Information Regulation (FIR/LMIV): gluten (wheat, spelt, rye), crustaceans, eggs, fish, peanuts, soya, milk/lactose, tree nuts (8 types), celery, mustard, sesame, sulphur dioxide/sulphites, lupins, molluscs. Guests filter directly in the ordering app by allergen. The receipt automatically prints allergen information. You also enter additives (E numbers such as colourants, preservatives, sweeteners) — mandatory for restaurants using, for example, colourants in drinks.
Variants and extras with their own pricing logic
Every dish can have multiple variants: pizza in 26 cm (€9.90) and 32 cm (€13.90), burger with no extras or with bacon (+€1.50), coffee as espresso, Americano or latte. Define mandatory selections (size must be chosen), optional single-select (sauce) and multi-select with a limit (max. 3 toppings). Extra prices are added automatically. No mental arithmetic, no errors.
Time-window availability and automatic hiding
Set an availability time window for each dish or category: breakfast menu only Mon–Fri 07:00–11:00, lunch special Mon–Fri 11:30–14:30, desserts from 18:00. Outside the window, the item is automatically unavailable. When a dish sells out, staff can mark it as 'unavailable' with one click — it disappears from the ordering app immediately, without a page reload.
Photo upload and product descriptions
Upload product photos — JPEG or PNG, recommended 800×600 pixels or larger. The system automatically crops to 4:3 format. Product descriptions support up to 300 characters, line breaks can be inserted. Studies show: dishes with a photo are ordered 30–40% more often than dishes without an image.
Bulk editor for large menus
Large inventory? Use the bulk editor: increase all prices in a category by 5% at once, set all summer drinks to unavailable, add new allergens to all sauces simultaneously. Changes take effect live immediately — no reload wait, no multi-page forms.

Common questions about the menu
Do I have to enter all 14 allergens?
Yes, under the FIR (EU Food Information Regulation) all 14 major allergens must be labelled if present in the dish. GastroSystem makes this straightforward: you tick the allergens present, the rest runs automatically.
Can I manage a menu for multiple locations?
Yes. You can create a master menu and apply it to different locations. Individual items can be deactivated per location or given location-specific prices.
How many categories and items can be managed?
Unlimited. Customers use menus with 500+ items without performance issues. Categories can be nested as deeply as required: main category > subcategory > variant.
Can I temporarily hide dishes?
Yes. Mark as 'unavailable' with one click — the dish disappears from the ordering app immediately. Reactivate with one click. Alternative: configure an automatic time window that shows the dish only at certain times.
