In Germany, restaurant POS systems must comply with strict legal requirements. Here’s what you need to know.
Legal Requirements
KassenSichV: Every POS system needs a certified TSE, must record all transactions, and be tamper-proof. Fines up to EUR 25,000.
TSE: Technical Security Device — available as hardware (USB) or cloud solution. Both are BSI-certified.
GoBD: Digital bookkeeping principles requiring traceability, completeness, and immutability of records.
Receipt obligation: A receipt must be offered for every transaction since January 2020.
Costs
Hardware (tablet, printer, cash drawer, TSE): EUR 900-2,450 one-time.
Software: EUR 29-399/month depending on scope. GastroSystem combines POS and ordering for EUR 299/month with TSE support.
