Since 2014, all restaurants must label allergens. Here's how to comply correctly.

What Does Allergen Labeling Require?

EU Regulation 1169/2011 requires labeling of 14 main allergens in all food served.

The 14 Main Allergens

Must always be labeled:

  1. Cereals with Gluten

    Wheat, rye, barley, oats, spelt.

  2. Crustaceans

    Shrimp, crab, lobster.

  3. Eggs

    All egg products.

  4. Fish

    All fish species.

  5. Peanuts

    Peanuts and peanut products.

  6. Soy

    Soybeans and soy products.

Consequences

Violations can be severe:
