Frequently asked questions about TSE & POS security
Everything about TSE requirements, KassenSichV, and GoBD compliance — explained simply.
TSE & POS security
What is a TSE?
The Technical Security Device (TSE) is a security module that cryptographically signs every transaction. It has been mandatory for all electronic POS systems in Germany since 2020.
Do I need a TSE?
Yes. Every electronic POS system in Germany must have a certified TSE. GastroSystem supports cloud TSE and hardware TSE.
What is the difference between cloud TSE and hardware TSE?
Cloud TSE is an online service — easy to set up, requires internet. Hardware TSE is a physical device — also works offline, requires USB.
How much does a TSE cost?
TSE support in GastroSystem is free. The TSE itself costs €5–15/month (cloud) or €100–200 one-time (hardware), depending on the provider.
What is KassenSichV?
The Cash Register Security Ordinance (KassenSichV) governs how POS systems must be secured: TSE requirement, receipt obligation, individual recording. GastroSystem meets all requirements.
What is GoBD?
The principles for proper bookkeeping and record-keeping in electronic form. GastroSystem stores all data GoBD-compliant.
What is a DSFinV-K export?
DSFinV-K is the standardised data format the tax office requests during POS audits. GastroSystem creates this export with one click.
What happens during a POS audit?
You export your POS data in DSFinV-K format and provide it to the auditor. GastroSystem stores all data audit-proof.
Do I have to print every receipt?
Since 2020, the receipt obligation applies: every customer must receive a receipt. The receipt can be a paper printout or digital (e.g. via email).
Can I connect the TSE later?
Yes. You can activate and connect a TSE at any time in the GastroSystem settings.
Is GastroSystem approved by the tax office?
GastroSystem meets all KassenSichV, GoBD, and receipt obligation requirements. With a certified TSE, you are fully tax-compliant.
